Traditional Dance as a Connection Between Generations
When dancers join hands in a circle, age stops mattering. Traditional dance is one of the most natural ways for generations to meet.

The circle dance — the kolo — is among the most recognisable forms of Croatian traditional dance. Its shape says something important: everyone faces inward, everyone is connected, and the circle can always open to let someone new join.
Learning through the body
Dance is knowledge held in the body. Steps, rhythms and gestures are learned by watching and doing, often side by side with more experienced dancers. In this way, dance becomes a direct form of teaching between older and younger participants.
More than steps
Each dance carries context: the occasions it belonged to, the music that accompanied it, the way partners were chosen and the costumes worn. Learning a dance properly means learning a little about the life of the community that created it.
A shared joy
Above all, traditional dance is joyful. It is one of the few activities in which a teenager and a grandparent can take part as equals, laughing at the same missed step. That shared joy is exactly what keeps the tradition going.
